This is the official blog for the Surveillance Camera Commissioner, Tony Porter. It will be updated at least every fortnight with new content.

It’s the Commissioner’s role to ensure that surveillance camera systems such as CCTV and Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras are used to protect communities rather than spy on them. To help with this the Surveillance Camera Code of Practice was published by the Home Office in 2013.

Tony will aim to give you updates on what he views as the current issues in the sector, share his ideas and importantly invite your views on the use of surveillance cameras. He’ll give you an insight into the way he works and how he supports the surveillance camera industry to comply with the Code.
