About the Surveillance Camera Commissioner's Office

This is the official blog for the Surveillance Camera Commissioner's Office. It will be updated at least every fortnight with new content.

It’s the Commissioner’s role to ensure that surveillance camera systems such as CCTV, Automatic Number Plate Recognition and Body Worn Video cameras are used to protect communities rather than spy on them. To help with this the Surveillance Camera Code of Practice was published by the Home Office in 2013.

This blog will give you updates on the current issues in the sector, share ideas and importantly invite your views on the use of surveillance cameras. It will give you an insight into the way the office works and how we support the surveillance camera industry to comply with the Code.
